RIP Lemmy 1945–2015

Lemmy was a truly one-of-a-kind guy. I'm so glad I got to meet him in person briefly many years ago. He will be missed.

Fire, Flour & Fork Skull

I was commissioned by Real Richmond to create a piece of artwork for the Halloween portion of their Fire, Flour & Fork event this year.

I created this papel picado style illustration to be used on all of their marketing materials at the Beaux Arts Ball held at The Jefferson Hotel on Halloween evening, which also happened to be the 120th anniversary of its opening!

As well as being used online and in print, my image was also projected onto the hotel itself and used as decoration inside the lobby.

Some of my other work was also on display as projections in the space!

Dead Media 4

I was asked to create a new site specific installation at the Science Museum of Virginia here in Richmond, Virginia as part of the RVA MakerFest. The local creative reuse organization Stuff Redux helped me collect the hundreds of CDs & DVDs I needed to create this anamorphic piece.

Anatomy of War: Match Skull

Another skull from my upcoming Anatomy of War exhibition opening this Wednesday at Krause Gallery in NYC. This one was made by arranging and burning matches directly on the work surface.

You can take a look at the process of creating some of the work for this show here...

Anatomy of War: Bullet Skull II

For my upcoming solo exhibition Anatomy of War at Krause Gallery in NYC I created a brand new bullet hole skull inspired by my piece on day 344 of the original Skull-A-Day project. This one was made by shooting directly into a large wooden panel...

League of Space Pirates Album Release

The project I have been working on the hardest since the completion of my original Skull-A-Day project is the collaborative science fiction universe League of Space Pirates

Now after 7 long years of work our first album has come out! Precognitive Universe of Emergent Desire is 13 tracks of 80s inspired electronic rock made by a band of anti-corporate outlaws 500 years in the future!

The album is available on pretty much any digital music service you can imagine. Here are a few links to easy ways to listen and buy the tracks right now...

And for those of you (like me) who still like a tactile product to go with their music I've made a limited run of CDs which you can purchase directly from me HERE.

Thanks for listening!

[BONUS] 434. Dead Media 3

I was recently invited to go to Austin Peay University for a short residency where I created a new anamorphic installation in my Dead Media series. In this case I worked with old vinyl records. Around 100 were used to create this site specific piece...

[BONUS] Skeleton Damask Stencil

My Skeleton Damask pattern is now available as a DIY PDF download!

http://spacepirate.org/skulladay/skeletondamask.pdf

To make the repeat pattern you'll need to make two copies of this stencil and reverse one of them. For doing an entire room I recommend two sets of the finished stencils so that they can be alternated while they dry.

It's Creative Commons licensed so you can use it for any personal projects, but if you want to sell it please get in touch first! Also please send me an image of the end results so I can share it. Have fun!

[BONUS] RVA Pancake Love Skulls

On Valentine's Day I spent the morning creating pancakes for a fun charity event called RVA Pancake Love. I worked alongside a dozen other artists, most working for the first time in the medium of pancake batter to raise funds for FeedMore a local charity that helps feed the needy here in the Richmond, Virginia area.

[BONUS] 430. Pill Skull

I was commissioned to create a skull image for a collector of my work who is also a doctor, so it made perfect sense to use pills as the medium.

[BONUS] 429. Dead Media 2

I was invited by the kind folks at Alchemy NFK to participate in their Darkmatters pop-up one-night exhibition in Norfolk, Virginia on Friday, January 30, 2015.

I worked with a literal truckload of thrift store books (456 to be exact) to create this temporary anamorphic installation. After the show is over the piece will be dismantled and the books will be donated to CHKD Thrift Store which benefits the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.

The piece only looks complete from a single point in the room. The video and images below give a sense of how distorted it looks from any other viewpoint.

See my first Dead Media installation (made with video cassettes) HERE.
